Registration & Participation

How do I register my team for Naija5Fest?

Registering your team for Naija5Fest is a simple 5-step process:

  1. Tournament Selection: Choose which monthly tournament you want to participate in.
  2. Team Information: Provide your team details, including name, state, and captain's contact information.
  3. Payment Processing: Purchase the required sponsor product and pay the processing fee.
  4. Confirmation: Receive your registration confirmation and team credentials.
  5. Future Registration: Optionally register for upcoming tournaments at early bird rates.

You can register online through our website or in person at designated registration centers in each participating state.

What is the registration fee for Naija5Fest tournaments?

The registration for Naija5Fest tournaments consists of two components:

  1. Sponsor Product Purchase: Each team must purchase the designated sponsor product for the month they are registering for. The product and price vary by month and sponsor. For example, January registration requires the purchase of Rehau's Raha Cola 6-pack at ₦15,000.
  2. Processing Fee: There is a standard processing fee of ₦4,600 per team.

The total registration cost typically ranges from ₦16,600 to ₦22,600 depending on the sponsor product for that month. Early bird registrations for future tournaments often come with discounted rates.

When is the registration deadline for each tournament?

Registration deadlines for each monthly tournament are typically two weeks before the tournament start date. However, since each state has a maximum capacity of 32 teams, registration may close earlier if all slots are filled.

We recommend registering as early as possible to secure your team's spot. The registration status for each state can be viewed on our interactive state map on the homepage, which shows how many slots are remaining in real-time.

Early bird registration for future tournaments is available up to three months in advance at discounted rates.

Can I register for multiple tournaments at once?

Yes, you can register for multiple tournaments at once. After completing your registration for the current month's tournament, you'll have the option to register for future tournaments at early bird rates.

Multi-tournament registrations offer several benefits:

  • Discounted rates (save up to ₦2,100 per tournament)
  • Guaranteed spots in future tournaments
  • Ability to plan your team's schedule in advance
  • Option to pay in installments for multiple registrations

You can select which future months you want to participate in during the registration process.

What happens if I need to withdraw my team from a tournament?

Our withdrawal policy is as follows:

  • More than 14 days before the tournament: 50% refund of the processing fee (the sponsor product purchase is non-refundable)
  • 7-14 days before the tournament: 25% refund of the processing fee
  • Less than 7 days before the tournament: No refund

Alternatively, instead of withdrawing, you can:

  • Transfer your registration to a future tournament (subject to a ₦2,000 transfer fee)
  • Transfer your registration to another team (subject to eligibility verification)

All withdrawal and transfer requests must be submitted in writing to registration@naija5fest.com.ng.

Tournament Format & Rules

What is the format of Naija5Fest tournaments?

Naija5Fest operates with a two-tier tournament structure:

Monthly Qualifiers:

  • Held in all 16 participating states
  • Single-elimination knockout format
  • Maximum of 32 teams per state
  • 5-a-side format (4 outfield players + 1 goalkeeper)
  • Matches consist of two 10-minute halves with a 2-minute halftime break
  • In case of a tie, matches go directly to penalty shootouts
  • The winning team from each state qualifies for the Year-End Championship

Year-End Championship ("Kings of 5's"):

  • Features all 12 monthly winning teams
  • Group stage followed by knockout rounds
  • Teams divided into 4 groups of 3 teams each
  • Top 2 teams from each group advance to knockout stage
  • Quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final match
  • Held in Lagos in December

For complete details, please refer to our Tournament Rules page.

Where are the tournaments held?

Naija5Fest tournaments are held across 16 Nigerian states:

  • Southwest: Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti
  • North Central: Abuja (FCT), Kaduna, Kwara, Plateau
  • Southeast: Anambra, Enugu, Abia
  • South-South: Rivers, Delta, Edo

The specific venues in each state are selected based on:

  • Quality of playing surface
  • Accessibility for teams and spectators
  • Adequate facilities (changing rooms, seating, etc.)
  • Security considerations

The Year-End Championship is always held in Lagos at a premium venue that can accommodate the scale and prestige of the event.

Venue details for each tournament are announced approximately one month before the event and communicated to all registered teams.

What are the rules for substitutions?

Naija5Fest follows a rolling substitution system:

  • Teams can make unlimited substitutions throughout the match
  • Players can be substituted in and out multiple times (re-entry is allowed)
  • Substitutions can only be made when the ball is out of play
  • The referee must acknowledge and permit the substitution
  • The player being substituted must leave the field before the substitute enters
  • Substitutions must be made at the designated substitution zone (near the halfway line)

This rolling substitution system allows teams to manage player fatigue effectively and utilize their entire squad throughout the tournament.

Improper substitutions may result in a yellow card for the player entering the field and a direct free kick awarded to the opposing team.

What happens in case of a tie during knockout matches?

In case of a tie after the regular playing time (two 10-minute halves), matches proceed directly to a penalty shootout. There is no extra time period.

The penalty shootout format is as follows:

  • Each team takes 3 penalties initially
  • If still tied after 3 penalties each, the shootout continues in sudden death format
  • In sudden death, each team takes one penalty until one team scores and the other misses
  • All players on the field at the end of the match must take a penalty before any player can take a second penalty
  • Only players who were on the field at the final whistle can participate in the penalty shootout
  • The goalkeeper who finished the match must be the goalkeeper for the penalty shootout (unless injured)

The referee's decision on all matters related to the penalty shootout is final.
